Intro to Final Cut
From Tuesday, September 14 2010
To Thursday, September 30 2010
7:00pm - 9:00pm Tuesday, Thursday - week 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 every month

This hands-on workshop is aimed at filmmakers who are new to the Final Cut Pro or Final Cut Express editing systems. This class covers the Final Cut interface; how to establish a workflow in editing; logging and capturing footage; editing clips in the timeline; working with basic transitions, titles, and audio; and outputting to tape and QuickTime files. Source footage will be provided for participants who will work on Mac stations (two participants to a computer).

While this is a beginner class which does not presume prior editing experience, basic knowledge of Macintosh computers is highly recommended.

We also offer a discounted combo package if you want to take this workshop plus the September 11-12 Backpack Filmmaker Workshop on Shooting Solo. For more on that workshop, click here.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR

As a Videojournalist for C-SPAN's Book TV, Richard Hall shoots, edits, and produces programs about books and authors for the non-profit public affairs network. Richard was instrumental in introducing Final Cut Pro to C-SPAN in 2006 where he uses the software almost daily and also advises and assists producers and editors who are learning the program. As a videojournalist, Richard has edited hundreds of Book TV programs with FCP, including what he calls "quasi-documentaries" or enhanced author interviews. His Book TV work also includes many cinema verite' productions like a recent 45 minute program about a Sarah Palin book signing in Cincinnati. His C-SPAN work necessarily emphasizes speed and utility, as Book TV airs about 20 hours of first run material each weekend. Richard began using Final Cut Express independently at home in 2003. He used FCP to edit the independent feature documentary American Feud: A History of Conservatives and Liberals (2008) and produced the DVD using DVD Studio Pro. Richard began editing at film school using Hot Glue and 16mm film and therefore has a deep appreciation for the miracle that is desktop computer editing.
