The Art of Our Scars is a documentary short that follows artist Jess Walters through kidney failure, dialysis, and transplant, highlighting the interdependence of human health. After being diagnosed with End-Stage Renal Disease, Walters brought their disabled and recovering body into arts spaces, challenging stigmas that deem chronically ill and disabled lives as unfulfilling, unpretty, or unworthy.

Featuring Walters and their living donor, Charles Nichols, the film reveals the hidden realities of surgery and recovery. Sharing the stories of their scars, Walters invites viewers to confront taboos and recognize the universality of their experience.
