A Thousand Cuts
Just announced yesterday, A Thousand Cuts will air on PBS’s Frontline in November following its theatrical release. Following Fillipino journalist Maria Ressa and her outlet Rappler as they set out on a journey to advocate for freedom of the press against the Phillipines’ President Rodrigo Duterte, Ramona portrays the key players from two sides of an increasingly dangerous war between press and government. Set against the backdrop of the country’s 2019 midterm elections, this stirring documentary shows what happens when a strongman president threatens democratic norms. But Ressa and her team at Rappler are not backing down. A recorded discussion with Ramona follows the film.

First Vote
While Asian American voters are the fastest growing ethnic collective in the United States, they are also among the least represented as elected officials, their voices rarely heard in major policy debate. Yi explores themes of immigration, voting rights and racial justice, she engages in honest and revealing conversations with four Asian American voters throughout our country’s most coveted districts in Ohio and North Carolina. Following their political participation from 2016 to 2018, First Vote crafts an insightful look at Asian Americans’ experience at the polls. A recorded discussion with Yi and several featured subjects follows the film.
