Reveca Torres

While We Are Here

Reveca Torres is an artist and disability advocate paralyzed as a teen. She founded BACKBONES to support people with spinal cord injuries and is former co-director of ReelAbilities Chicago. Her multidisciplinary work and advocacy have earned major fellowships and awards.

While We Are Here follows a contemporary artist who, through letters, journals, and art, enters into a dialogue with Frida Kahlo, Vincent van Gogh, and Henri Matisse—connecting their legacies to today’s disabled artists.
