Village Reels

Village Reels is Docs in Progress’ award-winning, intergenerational filmmaking program that pairs local high school students with residents from 55+ communities. Students learn camera and editing techniques, gain personal insight and workforce skills—writing, storytelling, collaboration—all while capturing powerful personal histories often hidden in plain sight.

Check out our story on WUSA9’s “The Heart of It” by reporter Sean Martinelli!

Launched in 2022 as a pilot program with Montgomery Blair High School and Silver Spring Village, we have worked hard to expand our reach. Now celebrating four years, our Village Reels community proudly includes Wheaton High School, Northwood High School, and the Villages of Kensington and Takoma Park.
