Community Stories Film Festival 2025 - Village Reels

Now in its 15th year presented by Docs In Progress, the Community Stories Film Festival is dedicated to showcasing local stories by local filmmakers. A celebration of independent documentary filmmaking, Community Stories unites filmmakers, cinephiles, and community members for three days of screenings, filmmaker Q&As, and conversations.

VILLAGE REELS, a Docs In Progress Young Artists’ Program, pairs high school students with 55+ villagers to create 3-minute videos about the life experiences of the villagers. The program, launched in 2022, started with a collaboration between Docs In Progress Montgomery Blair HS and Silver Spring Village. The program expanded in 2023 to include Wheaton High School and Kensington Village; and in 2024 with Northwood High School and Village of Takoma Park.
