ABOUT THE FILM

In God We Trust is a documentary centered on the Troyer family, members of the Amish community in Sugarcreek, Holmes County, Ohio. The film offers an outsider’s inside view of an Amish family that generously opens their home to the filmmaker, providing an intimate perspective of their life. The documentary delves into the everyday lives, philosophies, and simple joys of the Troyer family, using their story as a lens to explore the Amish way of life as a conscious choice and a deeply-rooted lifestyle.

Filmed over a span of three years, from 2015 to 2017, in the rural landscapes of Ohio, the documentary was completed in 2024.

Holmes County, Ohio, is home to the largest Amish settlement in the state, and by 2023, it included an estimated 39,525 children and adults, making it the second-largest Amish community in the world and the county with the highest concentration of Amish in the U.S.
