Work In Progress: DC's Heartbeat
IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT: Due to unforeseen circumstances, the filmmaker has asked Docs if this work-in-progress can be rescheduled for a later date. Our mission is to support filmmakers and we look forward to rescheduling DC'S Heartbeat very soon.
DC's HEARTBEAT - By Jordana Rubenstein-Edberg
Feature Documentary: The film is in the final rough cut stage and the filmmaker is seeking constructive feedback to finalize the film.
The film explores the creation of an inclusive art space in DC through the story of the Carter Barron Amphitheater and the impact of recent development on the city's arts scene and the challenges faced by artists and long-time residents of color.
Despite economic and racial divisions, the amphitheater has a history of uniting diverse communities since 1947. Although the Amphitheater closed in 2016 due to structural issues and funding, it remains a cherished, affordable, multi-generational oasis. The film highlights community efforts to revive this unique space.
